Concrete Block Work for Full-Scope Renovations in Oxford, MS
When a renovation reaches the block — foundation walls, crawlspace repair, garden walls, structural CMU — TAV leads the full project. Some masonry scope we self-perform; some we coordinate through trusted licensed crews. Either way, one contractor owns the result.
Block Work as Part of the Whole Project
TAV Construction is an interior finishing specialist by trade — and lately we've been actively expanding into masonry as well. When block scope shows up on a project, we either self-perform it or bring in a licensed mason we've worked with. Either path, you get one project, one schedule, and one contractor accountable for the result.
What TAV Owns
Project plan, permit, schedule, sub coordination (when applicable), footing and drainage detail, finish standard, and a guarantee that the block work integrates with framing, flashing, and any interior finish on the same project. One number, one contract.
What Block Work Covers
CMU foundation walls, crawlspace and pier repair, structural garden and retaining walls, garage and outbuilding walls. The hard part is almost always the footing detail and the drainage upstream — both of which we plan for first.
- CMU foundation & crawlspace walls — new construction and repair of failing pier walls, with proper footing depth and bond beam where required.
- Structural garden & retaining walls — engineered to load and height, with batter, drainage, and frost-depth footing for North Mississippi soil.
- Garage & outbuilding walls — structural CMU shells sequenced with framing, roofing, and interior finish on the same project.
- Crack & settlement diagnosis — cause traced before repair; footings, drainage, and hydrostatic pressure checked first.
Block-wall failures are almost always footing or drainage problems, not the block itself. A wall that's cracking on the long axis usually has uneven settlement underneath; a wall that's bowing inward is dealing with hydrostatic pressure that needs drainage relief. We diagnose the cause before we touch the visible wall — patching cracked block without fixing what's actually moving means the crack just comes back.
Block-vs-poured-concrete is the second decision. CMU goes up faster, is easier to repair in sections, and is the right call for most shorter foundation walls and crawlspace repairs. Poured concrete is stronger continuous and better suited to tall foundation walls. We size the choice to the load, the height, and the site access — not to whatever the crew is most comfortable with.

Block Work & Project Lead — Common Questions
How TAV handles block scope on full renovations.
1Does TAV self-perform block work?
TAV is actively expanding its masonry capability and currently leads block scope through trusted licensed masonry crews. Some scope we self-perform; some we sub. Either way, you get one contractor accountable for the whole project.
2What kinds of block work does TAV manage?
Concrete masonry unit (CMU) foundation walls, crawlspace and pier-wall repair, structural garden and retaining walls, garage and outbuilding walls, and integration of block scope into renovation projects that also touch framing or interior finish.
3Block wall vs. poured concrete — which is right?
CMU is generally faster and cheaper for shorter walls and easier to repair in pieces. Poured concrete is stronger continuous, better for tall foundation walls, but harder to patch. We size the choice to the load, height, and site access for your project.
4Why use TAV instead of a dedicated block mason?
For block-only jobs, a dedicated mason is often the right call. Our value shows up when block work is one phase of a larger renovation that also touches framing, flashing, or interior finish — one project lead beats four uncoordinated bids and four different schedules.
5What about cracked or settling block walls?
Cracking is usually a footing or drainage problem, not the block. We diagnose the cause first — settlement, hydrostatic pressure, frost heave — and only commit to a repair plan once we know what's actually moving. Patching cracked block without fixing the cause means the crack returns.
