Brick Repair as Part of the Whole Project

TAV Construction is an interior finishing specialist by trade — and lately we've been actively expanding into masonry as well. When brick repair scope shows up on a project, we either self-perform it or bring in a licensed mason we've worked with. Either path, you get one project, one schedule, and one contractor accountable for the result.

What TAV Owns

Project plan, permit, schedule, sub coordination (when applicable), mortar color and joint matching, finish standard, and a guarantee that the brick work integrates with framing, flashing, and any interior finish on the same project. One number, one contract.

What Brick Repair Covers

Tuckpointing failing joints, replacing spalled or cracked face brick, structural patches around lintels and arches, and full re-pointing on weathered older homes. The hard part is almost always the mortar match and the upstream water source — both of which we plan for first.

  • Tuckpointing & re-pointing — failing or weathered mortar joints raked out and re-packed with color-matched mortar at the correct depth and profile.
  • Spalled-brick replacement — individual face bricks cut out and replaced with size-, color-, and texture-matched stock, then re-pointed clean.
  • Lintel & arch patching — structural cracks above doors and windows traced to the cause (rusted lintel, settled footer), then rebuilt with proper bond and bearing.
  • Water-source diagnosis — flashing, weep, and sill integration checked first; visible brick failure is usually the symptom, not the cause.

Brick failures on Mississippi homes are mostly water-related: missing flashing above a lintel that lets water sit on the steel, weeps caulked shut at the bottom of the wall, a windowsill that drains backward. Replacing the visible brick without solving the upstream cause means the same joint will fail again in a couple of seasons. We trace the source on every repair, fix it, and only then rebuild the face.

Mortar matching is the second piece. New mortar mixed against a 50-year-old joint will always read newer unless the sand grit, pigment, and joint profile are tested against the existing wall. We pull samples, lay test joints in a hidden area, and only commit to the visible repair when the match is right.

FAQ

Brick Repair & Project Lead — Common Questions

How TAV handles brick scope on full renovations.

1

TAV is actively expanding its masonry capability and currently leads brick repair through trusted licensed masonry crews. Some scope we self-perform; some we sub. Either way, you get one contractor accountable for the whole project.

2

Tuckpointing of failing mortar joints, replacement of spalled or cracked face brick, structural patching around lintels and arches, and full re-pointing on weathered older homes — color and mortar-mix matched to the existing wall.

3

For brick-only jobs, a dedicated mason is often the right call. Our value shows up when brick repair is one phase of a larger project that also touches framing, flashing, interior drywall, or finish work — one project lead beats four uncoordinated bids and four different schedules.

4

Yes. Mortar color and joint profile (concave, V-joint, raked, weathered) are the two things that make a repair read continuous with the surrounding wall. We pull a sample, test mortar mixes against the existing joint in a hidden area, and only commit to the visible repair when the match is right.

5

Failing brick is usually a symptom — water entering through bad flashing above a lintel, a missing weep, or a cracked sill above. We trace the source first, repair the upstream cause, then rebuild the brick face. Patching without source repair just postpones the next failure.
