Chimney Repair for Full-Scope Renovations in Oxford, MS
When a renovation reaches the chimney — tuckpointing, crown rebuilds, flashing at the roof-to-stack transition, full re-clad — TAV leads the full project. Some masonry scope we self-perform; some we coordinate through trusted licensed crews. Either way, one contractor owns the result.
Chimney Repair as Part of the Whole Project
TAV Construction is an interior finishing specialist by trade — and lately we've been actively expanding into masonry as well. When chimney repair shows up on a project, we either self-perform it or bring in a licensed mason we've worked with. Either path, you get one project, one schedule, and one contractor accountable for the result.
What TAV Owns
Project plan, permit (where required), schedule, sub coordination (when applicable), water-source diagnosis, mortar and material match, finish standard, and a guarantee that chimney work integrates with roofing, flashing, and any interior finish on the same project. One number, one contract.
What Chimney Repair Covers
Tuckpointing failing joints, crown rebuilds, spalled brick or stone replacement, counter-flashing at the roof-to-stack transition, cap and chase-cover installation, and full re-clad on masonry chimneys. The hard part is almost always the water-entry diagnosis and the mortar match — both of which we plan for first.
- Tuckpointing & re-pointing — failing mortar joints on the stack raked out and re-packed with color-matched mortar at the correct depth and profile.
- Crown rebuilds — cracked or failed concrete crowns demoed and rebuilt with proper overhang and drip kerf, sized to shed water away from the brick.
- Counter-flashing & roof transition — step and counter-flashing at the roof-to-stack joint replaced or rebuilt; the most common chimney leak source.
- Caps, chase covers & re-clad — stainless or copper caps, chase covers with proper overhang, and full brick or stone re-clad on chimneys with damaged face.
A chimney leak is rarely a roof problem — it's almost always the chimney itself. Failed crown lets water sit on top of the stack and run down through the brick. Missing or cracked cap lets rain straight into the flue. Failed counter-flashing at the roof-to-stack transition is the most common single source of a "leak that shows up near the ceiling on the second floor." We diagnose where the water is actually entering before any visible repair is committed.
The visible mortar match is the second piece. New mortar against a 50-year-old joint will read newer unless the sand grit, pigment, and joint profile are tested against the existing wall. We pull samples, lay test joints in a hidden area, and only commit to the visible repair when the match is right.

Chimney Repair & Project Lead — Common Questions
How TAV handles chimney scope on full renovations.
1Does TAV self-perform chimney repair?
TAV is actively expanding its masonry capability and currently leads chimney repair through trusted licensed masonry crews. Some scope we self-perform; some we sub. Either way, you get one contractor accountable for the whole project.
2What kinds of chimney repair does TAV manage?
Tuckpointing of failing mortar joints, crown rebuilds, replacement of spalled brick or stone, chimney flashing at the roof-to-stack transition, cap and chase-cover installation, and full re-clad on masonry chimneys with damaged face.
3Why is the chimney leaking when the roof is fine?
The chimney itself is usually the leak. Failed crown, missing or cracked cap, failed counter-flashing, or open mortar joints all let water in at the highest, most exposed point on the house. We diagnose where the water is actually entering before we patch anything.
4Why use TAV instead of a dedicated chimney contractor?
For chimney-only jobs — especially crown rebuilds or flue work — a dedicated chimney specialist is often the right call. Our value shows up when chimney repair is one phase of a larger project that also touches roofing, masonry, or interior finish — one project lead beats four uncoordinated bids.
5Do you handle the flue or interior fireplace work?
Chimney flue relining, smoke-chamber rebuilds, and fireplace insert work are specialist scope we don't self-perform. We coordinate with a licensed chimney-sweep or fireplace-specific contractor when that's part of the job, then handle the masonry rebuild and flashing on our end.
