Stone Masonry for Full-Scope Renovations in Oxford, MS
When a renovation reaches the stone — natural-stone veneer, retaining walls, stone-faced columns and chimneys — TAV leads the full project. Some masonry scope we self-perform; some we coordinate through trusted licensed crews. Either way, one contractor owns the result.
Stone Masonry as Part of the Whole Project
TAV Construction is an interior finishing specialist by trade — and lately we've been actively expanding into masonry as well. When stone work shows up on a project, we either self-perform it or bring in a licensed mason we've worked with. Either path, you get one project, one schedule, and one contractor accountable for the result.
What TAV Owns
Project plan, permit, schedule, sub coordination (when applicable), stone selection against the existing structure, finish standard, and a guarantee that the stone work integrates with framing, flashing, and any interior finish on the same project. One number, one contract.
What Stone Masonry Covers
Natural and manufactured stone veneer, dry-stack and mortared retaining walls, stone-faced columns and chimney exteriors, stone entrances and steps. The hard part is almost always the substrate detail and the natural-vs-veneer selection — both of which we plan for first.
- Natural & manufactured stone veneer — exterior walls, accent gables, wainscot panels, and chimney exteriors with samples walked on-site before commitment.
- Retaining walls — dry-stack or mortared, with proper drainage, batter, and frost-depth footing for North Mississippi soil.
- Stone-faced columns & chimneys — full or partial cladding tied into the existing exterior, sequenced with brick, stucco, or siding scope on the same job.
- Substrate & flashing detail — weather-resistant barrier, kick-out flashing, and wall-penetration detail checked first; the stone is only as good as what's behind it.
Stone-veneer failures on Mississippi homes are almost never the stone itself — they're behind it. Missing weather-resistant barrier, a kick-out flashing that wasn't installed at the roof-to-wall transition, or wall penetrations that weren't sealed before the stone went up. We pull the substrate detail before any stone is set, and only commit to the visible work when the assembly is right.
Natural-vs-veneer selection is the second piece. Manufactured stone has come a long way and is convincing in most lighting, but at close range it can still read as veneer on a high-end home. We pull both samples, lay them against the existing structure, and let you make the call with the full picture rather than a tear-sheet at the showroom.

Stone Masonry & Project Lead — Common Questions
How TAV handles stone scope on full renovations.
1Does TAV self-perform stone masonry?
TAV is actively expanding its masonry capability and currently leads stone work through trusted licensed masonry crews. Some scope we self-perform; some we sub. Either way, you get one contractor accountable for the whole project.
2What kinds of stone masonry does TAV manage?
Natural and manufactured stone veneer on exterior walls, stone-faced columns and chimney exteriors, dry-stack and mortared retaining walls, stone steps and entrances, and integration of stone scope into renovation projects that also touch framing or interior finish.
3Natural stone vs. manufactured stone veneer — which is right?
Natural stone is heavier, more expensive, and reads as the real thing forever. Manufactured stone is lighter, cheaper, and modern blends are convincing — but it telegraphs as veneer up close on high-end homes. We walk samples on-site against the rest of the house before you commit.
4Why use TAV instead of a dedicated stone mason?
For stone-only jobs, a dedicated mason is often the right call. Our value shows up when stone work is one phase of a larger project that also touches framing, flashing, or interior finish — one project lead beats four uncoordinated bids and four different schedules.
5Will the stone work hold up in Mississippi weather?
Yes, if the substrate and flashing are right. Most stone-veneer failures aren't the stone — they're failed weather-resistant barrier, missing kick-out flashing, or unsealed wall penetrations behind the stone. We pull the substrate detail first and only commit to the visible work when the assembly is right.
